A recent article in the L.A. Times tries to make sense of a Pew Research Center survey revealing that the majority of bisexuals remains closeted.In the survey, only 12% of bisexual men said that most or all of the important people in their lives knew about their sexual orientation, compared to 77% of gay men. Wow.
As for being out in the workplace, only 11% of bisexual people polled by Pew said that most of their closest coworkers knew about their sexual orientation, compared to 48% of gay men.
The Times learned that some closeted bisexuals had avoided coming out because they didn't want to deal with the misconceptions and stereotypes that bisexuals were, among other things, indecisive, confused, opportunistic, privileged, incapable of monogamy, or just going through a "bi now, gay later" phase.
